Who We Are

The Core Identity

The EPF Ecosystem is a Smart ICT Innovation Ecosystem and a Pan-African AI ecosystem. We operate as a digital infrastructure pipeline designed to move beyond traditional aid by building a self-sustaining, technology-driven future for the continent. We manage the entire lifecycle of innovation, from identifying raw talent and mission-driven problem solving to deploying de-risked, enterprise-grade AI solutions.

A Message From the Founder

The Architect of the Ecosystem

Nathan Mariemuthu — Founder and Ecosystem Manager
Nathan Mariemuthu
Founder & Ecosystem Manager
10 years building Africa's digital infrastructure
Architect of the Closed-Loop Innovation Model
Ecosystem Manager across 28 entities, 30+ countries

"I decided to dedicate the rest of my working life to one thing: improving the public sector through technology. Not through charity. Not through protest. Through proof."

The EPF Ecosystem was born from a single question asked in 2014: What will Africa look like when our children are the working population? The answer required not just a foundation or a fund — but a complete closed-loop system.

Today, that system spans four FSCA and NPO-regulated entities, 28 active internal entities, and verified deployments at Vodacom, PepsiCo, UNICEF, Rand Water, and 30+ countries.

"Africa's digital century is beginning. The continent's greatest asset is its young people. We've spent a decade building the system to channel their talent into the solutions that matter."

How the Ecosystem Works

The Closed-Loop Innovation Pipeline

Four entities. One mission. Indigenous Pan-African AI built by Africans, deployed for Africa. Talent in. Solutions out.

Scout — Identify Talent
Step 01 — Scout

Identify Talent
and Challenges

The EPF Foundation starts by identifying talent and public sector challenges through the Solve for X programme — Africa's most active innovation hackathon series. Over 40 events annually uncover the next generation of African tech entrepreneurs.

Solve for X Hackathons
50+ annual events where young innovators prototype solutions to Africa's 10 critical socio-economic challenges.
Public Sector Challenge Mapping
Each hackathon is anchored to a verified government or municipal challenge, ensuring every solution has a real customer from day one.
Talent Pipeline Identification
Top performers are fast-tracked into AI Campus and the EPF Tech Fund pipeline — no talent is wasted.
14,000+ youth have participated in Solve for X events since 2015, generating over 100 solutions that have gone into production.
Step 02 — Equip

Train and Build

AI Campus bridges the critical gap between university theory and industry execution. Graduates leave with real-world experience building enterprise-grade software products — not just academic credentials.

Upskill
Preparing graduates with AI, software engineering, and data science skills aligned to real industry demand.
Build
Students build real products used by real clients — creating a portfolio of enterprise-grade software for internal and external businesses.
Place and Retain
Graduates are placed into permanent roles with partner organisations, or retained for internal EPF Ecosystem development.
AI Campus operates hubs in Sandton, Bellville, Harare, and Accra — with active industry partnerships with Microsoft, Deloitte, and MTN.
Equip — AI Campus
Scale — EPF Tech Fund
Step 03 — Scale

Fund and De-risk

The EPF Tech Fund scales proprietary software solutions that fix public sector bottlenecks — taking de-risked, post-revenue enterprises that have graduated through Scout and Equip, and deploying them at institutional scale. We bring capital and strategic firepower, not just cheques.

Pre-seed Funding
Direct equity investment into validated, post-revenue software ventures that have graduated through the Scout and Equip stages — de-risked before institutional capital is deployed.
B-BBEE Compliance Structuring
Solving B-BBEE for corporate partners while driving Development Impact Bonds that turn social investment into measurable returns.
Value Beyond Capital
Strategic interventions for business modelling, financial strategy, and market access — connecting portfolio companies to our government and corporate network.
28 entities in the ecosystem with a combined GVA of R300M+ generated to date.
Step 04 — Execute

Deploy and Deliver

The Trust Us PMO division physically deploys technology on the ground — ensuring 100% product-market fit. This is the step most ecosystems miss. We do not just fund ideas, we deploy them.

Physical Deployment
On-the-ground project management across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Ghana — ensuring solutions actually work in the real world.
100% Product-Market Fit
Every solution is deployed alongside the client, iterated in real time, and only signed off when it solves the problem it was built for.
Government and Municipal Clients
Direct partnerships with municipalities, government departments, and state-owned entities ensure procurement-ready, policy-aligned deployment.
Trust Us has deployed solutions in 30+ countries with active engagements across water, energy, housing, and financial governance sectors.
Execute — Trust Us PMO
Step 05 — Measure

AI-driven Data Cleaning

Automated data validation ensures accuracy across all reporting streams.

Audit-ready Reporting

Every transaction and milestone is logged and exportable for the Auditor-General.

Customisable Dashboards

Partner-specific views showing exactly the data that matters to each stakeholder.
